Description
This listing is for a 1996-97 seventeenth edition of the Jane's Military Communications book edited by John Williamson and is 844 pages of information. This is a very heavy oversized book that weighs 6 pounds. Janes published a series of books which acted as a compendium of information on the topic of each book. Within the pages, you will find information on receivers covering and specializing in specific bands, station communications, portable communications, space communications and more. The book is organized by country and is indexed by manufacturer and by model number of the piece of equipment. There is also an advertisers index and it is entertaining to leaf through the pages to read about the equipment, view the pictures, and read the advertisements from defense contractors who advertised within the pages. The hardcover book is complete, but the rear spine is 1/2" crack at the top edge. The internal pages are tight and not loose and we did not see any internal markings when looking at the pages casually. There are marker writings on the exterior page edges of "AD SALES". Jane's Information Group was founded in 1898 by Fred T. Jane who was a naval artist that enjoyed sketching ships. This later progressed into All The World's Fighting Ships in 1898. From there, the publisher branched out into other areas of military information and are often considered to be a compendium of information regarding aircraft, railways, navies, air forces, communications, police, and more. Jane's books have been used by governments and institutions worldwide for their comprehensive, no non-sense, accurate information found within the pages of their books. Non-professional hobbyists enjoy leafing through the pages to read the information, view the advertisements and see the dazzling array of contents making the Jane's books a worldwide reference source.
