Aging and gravity cause the skin to become stretched and fat tissues to accumulate in undesired areas. This is especially noticeable on the face, and when this occurs in the upper portion of the face, it can greatly detract from a person’s appearance because it negatively affects how their eyes look. Loose skin and drooping tissues often make a person appear tired, angry, or annoyed even when they don’t feel that way. Patients with these conditions can undergo plastic surgery to restore a more youthful, alert appearance, but many people are overwhelmed when trying to determine the best procedure for their needs.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Handel can evaluate you and your desires to determine the best procedure to meet your individual needs. If you are considering a brow lift or an eyelid lift, here is more information that can help you get a better idea of the procedure that will be best for you.
Brow Lift & Eyelid Lift
Brow lift surgery and eyelid lift surgery may sound similar, but they are quite different procedures that target different areas. They both remove excess skin and fat and reposition the remaining tissue to improve signs of aging and produce a more alert, rested, and youthful appearance. Although both procedures can be customized to meet your unique needs, each is designed to improve specific areas of the upper face.
Brow Lift Surgery
Brow lift surgery is also known as a forehead lift because it targets wrinkles and signs of aging on the forehead and between the brows.
Brow lift surgery can improve the following:
- Drooping brows that hood the eyes
- Eyebrows that are low and straight across (no arch)
- Horizontal wrinkles or lines across the forehead
- Vertical creases between the eyes and eyebrows
Eyelid Lift Surgery
Eyelid lift surgery, technically known as “blepharoplasty,” targets the tissue that is actually on the upper and/or lower eyelids.
Eyelid lift surgery can improve the following:
- Folds in the upper eyelids that may impair vision
- Fat deposits that appear as puffiness or “bags” on the upper and/or lower eyelids
- Drooping lower eyelids that pull the lid away from the eye
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles on the lids
