Choice of Surgical Technique

Procedure

Breast implant surgery can be completed in about two hours, and most patients will be able to return home the same day. The patient should have someone to drive them back home after the surgery. For out of town patients, Dr. Handel’s team can make overnight stay arrangements at a motel. The procedure is generally performed using general anesthesia, or intravenous sedation in some cases.

The procedure will begin with the surgeon placing a discreet incision below the breast crease, around the areola, or in the underarm. A breast pocket to accommodate the implant will be carved through the incision. The implant may be placed above or below the pectoral muscle as decided during the treatment planning process. Once the implant is adjusted into its position, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.
